Mahavira was the 24th and last tirthankara of Jainism.
A tirthankara is someone who helps people on the path to enlightenment as an arihant or Jain holy figure.
In this sculpture Mahavira is captured with his hands clasp together in an attitude of meditation.
Surrounding Mahavira are his predecessors, the 23 tirthankaras that have come before him all in a position of meditation.
On the base are more devotees along with two lions and two elephants. On the front of the base at the bottom is a wheel with two deer on each side, the wheel of dharma.
